Fall/Winter Updates

Hi, my name is Kat, and I am a picture-hoarder.

And oh, have I ever been hoarding. I know. I’m mean. I’m lazy. I’m cruel and torturous, and why, oh why did I show up with my big bad camera if I was not planning on sharing the fruits of my labors?

Jesting aside, I have been hoarding a great many photographic things since September, which is something I shall attempt to remedy before the end of the year.

I admit to a small bit of depression that occurred after I discovered I’d lost an entire day of DragonCon photos, including almost the entire parade. =P After a brief mourning period, I took on a child’s birthday party towards the end of the month with the intent that it might lift my spirits (and it did). Then I got the flu. And saw three major concerts within eight days.

And by this time it is a week into October. Not only am I preparing to go out of town on my annual business trip, but I am costuming like mad for Halloween (this year my daughter was the focus of my madness -- her Starfleet Ensign's uniform and a Mr. Spock jack-o-lantern). Mix in the various shows my husband’s band played throughout the month… I think that I am just going to start taking the month of October completely off from photography from now on. Costuming is too all-consuming to add into photography and a full-time job. I can do two things at once, but three is a bit much.

So I told myself I wasn’t going out on Halloween this year, but my daughter had the final say on that one by dislocating both her knee AND kneecap shortly after trick-or-treating, forcing me to ride in an ambulance to the ER, still dressed in the vampire-esque clothes I had put on to hand out candy to the kids. Does that count as going out?

The first week of November is the annual ‘Halloween Hangover’, where I wander around the house like someone lost because I no longer have anything to sew. However, this time I was occupied in helping Ensign Kneecap learn to do her stretches and strength-building exercises. This leads directly into a couple of weeks of global household car problems -- I'm talking days when both cars were broken at the same time, and taxis and friends were utilized. Many repairs later, we are cleaning the house and shopping, because as of yesterday -- meaning directly after the premiere of the latest Harry Potter flick (which I attended in full Bellatrix regalia) and another ‘What It Is’ gig -- my family has now arrived for the holidays.

So after my upcoming overscheduled week of office work and family fun, I will reward myself by going to see the Potter movie one more time, and then it will be Time To Get Started. Stay tuned.

P.S.:

I am currently looking for non-live music projects to expand my portfolio. Portraits, lifestyle, pets and especially children; adult models only wanted if they are willing to really bring it. If you’ve got an idea, or know anyone who does, drop me a line -- I am temporarily shooting any portfolio-building special projects for FREE. (Any projects that do not involve live music have turn-around times and deadlines, and will never fall into the backlog of free music photography.)
